Overview

Lothal is a remote farming world on the Outer Rim, a temperate planet of golden grasslands, plains and farmland[1]. Its main city is Capital City, and an ancient Jedi Temple lies hidden among the planet's ruins.

Under the Empire the planet becomes a supplier of factories, mines and TIE fighter production[1]. At first many citizens welcome Imperial rule, hoping for economic growth, but farms are soon bought or seized to make room for the new industry[1]. The Imperial presence turns a quiet world into a busy industrial one.

Its wildlife includes wild loth-cats on the plains, loth-wolves in the grasslands and wastes, and loth-bats in the air[1]. Lothal is best known as Ezra Bridger's home and as the place where the crew of the Ghost begins its fight against the Empire[2].

Who lives here

Role in the galaxy

Lothal is where Star Wars Rebels begins. Ezra Bridger grew up on its streets, the crew of the Ghost takes its first stand against the Empire here, and a hidden Jedi Temple lies among its ruins[1][2].

To the Empire, Lothal is a place to extract and manufacture: its farmland gives way to factories, mines and TIE fighter production[1]. The series uses the planet to show what Imperial rule does to ordinary people, as farmers lose their land and young Ezra Bridger has to survive on the streets[1][2]. Much of the early story of Rebels is set here, and the planet returns in the first season of Ahsoka[6].
