Overview
Mon Cala is an ocean planet in the Outer Rim, lit by twin suns[1]. Its seas hold coral reefs and kelp forests, and its people live in floating cities on the surface and in cities on the sea floor[1].
Two peoples share the world. The amphibious Mon Calamari rule through a monarchy, and the squid-faced Quarren live alongside them[1]. Their long rivalry flared into civil war during the Clone Wars[1].

Role in the galaxy
Mon Cala is the source of the Mon Calamari shipyards and of many of the Rebel Alliance's star cruisers[1][3]. During the Clone Wars the Separatists tried to exploit the old rivalry between the Mon Calamari and the Quarren, and later the Empire invaded the planet[1][6]. Admiral Ackbar, a Mon Calamari commander, defended his home world in the Clone Wars[3].
