Overview

The ARC-170 is the Republic's heavy starfighter of the Clone Wars. Its name stands for Aggressive ReConnaissance-170, and it was built by Incom Corporation and Sublights Products Corporation, known as Subpro, in a joint venture[2]. Three clone troopers crew it: a pilot, a copilot and a tail gunner, with an astromech droid for navigation and repairs[2].

It is best known from the opening space battle over Coruscant in Revenge of the Sith, where clone commander Odd Ball leads ARC-170s alongside the Jedi starfighters[2][3].

How it flies and fights

The ARC-170 measures 12.71 metres long and 19.85 metres across the wings[1]. The pilot flies, the copilot usually fires the forward guns, a pair of medium laser cannons under the outer wings, and the tail gunner covers the rear[2]. Proton torpedo launchers handle heavy targets, deflector shields protect the hull and a hyperdrive lets the fighter jump between systems[2].
