Overview

The Jedi starfighter is the small, pointed fighter the Jedi fly in the Clone Wars. Two versions reach the screen: the triangular Delta-7 Aethersprite of Attack of the Clones and the smaller, better-armed Eta-2 Actis of Revenge of the Sith[1][2]. Both are light interceptors with a single pilot and a socket behind the cockpit for an astromech droid[1][2].

Neither has a hyperdrive of its own. For long journeys a Jedi relies on an external hyperspace ring[3]. Obi-Wan Kenobi flies both types, from the asteroid ring around Geonosis to the skies above Coruscant[1][2].

How it flies and fights

The Delta-7 is a pointed, triangular wedge 8 metres long, with the pilot up front and the astromech behind[1]. The Eta-2 shrinks the layout to 5.47 metres and adds firepower. It has a forked nose, a new cockpit pod and a spring-loaded socket for the droid[2]. Both fight with laser cannons, and the Eta-2 hits harder[2].

Variants

Behind the scenes

  1. The Delta-7's triangular shape is a nod to the Imperial Star Destroyer. ILM's Doug Chiang saw it as a link between the prequel look and the original trilogy. For the rain-soaked Kamino landing pads, the crew built a full-size model and weatherproofed it[4].
  2. The Eta-2 was designed as a step between the Delta-7 and the TIE fighter, and its opening wing panels borrow an idea from a Hasbro Jedi starfighter toy. One full-size model covered every actor close-up, repainted between Anakin's and Obi-Wan's scenes[4].
