Overview
Naboo is a green, temperate planet on the Mid Rim, made up of grassy plains, rolling hills, lakes, swamps and waterfalls. Its human cities stand beside rivers, lakes and cliffs, with domed palaces and classical architecture, and the capital is Theed[1][4].
Two peoples share the world. Human settlers, the Naboo, live in the river cities and are ruled by an elected Queen. The Gungans, amphibious people with flexible skeletons, build bubble-shielded cities beneath the lakes[1][3]. Between them, the planet has two very different looks: classical palaces above the water and bubble-shielded cities below it.
Naboo is also the homeworld of Padmé Amidala, who was elected Queen at only fourteen[2]. The saga keeps coming back to the planet, from the prequel films and The Clone Wars to Andor[1].
Who lives here
Gungans
Amphibious people with flexible skeletons who live in bubble-shielded cities such as Otoh Gunga. They also field the Gungan Grand Army, their own military force[3].
Naboo settlers
Peaceful human settlers who live in river cities with classical architecture. They govern the planet through an elected monarch, the Queen[1].
Falumpaset
Large native herd animals. The Gungans use them for transport and heavy hauling, in war as well as in daily life[3].
Role in the galaxy
Naboo is a world that is easy to overlook and hard to ignore. Its small military and peaceful politics made it an easy target when the Trade Federation blockaded it in 32 BBY over a dispute about trade-route taxes. That crisis opens The Phantom Menace and pulls a quiet planet into galactic politics[1][2].
Two of the saga's central political figures are tied to the planet: Padmé Amidala, who goes from elected Queen to Galactic Senator, and Palpatine, who sits in the Senate for Naboo[2][7]. It is also where humans and Gungans, two peoples with very different ways of life, share a single world[1][3].
