Overview
Dathomir is a dark, humid world on the Outer Rim, lit by the dull red glow of its sun, Domir[5]. Under a blood-red sky, green mist drifts between forests, swamps and mountains, thorny vines tangle the ground, and twisted trees hang with cocoon-like pods.
It is the home of the Nightsisters, a coven of Force witches whose magick ties them to the planet's strange, dark life[1]. Their spiritual leader is Mother Talzin, and they keep Zabrak men, the Nightbrothers, as warriors and servants[2][3]. The witches can even raise their dead, and the zombies they wake rise to fight for the clan[1].
In the Clone Wars the Nightsisters sold their services to powerful clients such as Count Dooku[1]. Several well-known characters come from the planet, among them Maul, Asajj Ventress and Morgan Elsbeth, as well as the Nightbrother Savage Opress[1][7][8][9].
Who lives here
Nightsisters
Force-sensitive witch clans who ruled the planet in the Clone Wars. They weave Force magick and sell their services to powerful clients[1].
Nightbrothers
Zabrak males kept as warriors and servants by the Nightsisters. Savage Opress and Feral both came from their ranks[3].
Nightsister zombies
Dead Nightsisters raised by magick. They hang in pods in the trees and can rise to fight when the witches need them[1].
Role in the galaxy
Dathomir is where Star Wars keeps its witches. The Nightsisters are a clan of Force-sensitive women whose magick draws on the planet's own life, a tradition quite separate from the Jedi and the Sith[1]. In the Clone Wars they sold their services to powerful clients such as Count Dooku, and their spiritual leader was Mother Talzin[1][2].
The planet appears in The Clone Wars, Rebels, Tales of the Empire, Tales of the Underworld and the first season of Ahsoka[1][6]. Characters raised on Dathomir, including Maul, Asajj Ventress and Morgan Elsbeth, carry that haunted, magick-soaked background with them into stories far from home[7][8][9].
