Overview

Kashyyyk is the homeworld of the Wookiees, a heavily forested planet on the Mid Rim. A planet-wide canopy of enormous wroshyr trees covers the land, with Wookiee villages built high in the branches, blue oceans along the coasts and a dark forest floor, the Shadowlands, far below[1][2].

The Wookiees are tall, strong and loyal, and they build homes and advanced technology in the trees. They are gentle in peace but prone to berserker rage[2]. The coastal city of Kachirho is the best-known settlement on the planet[3].

Kashyyyk sits on important hyperspace lanes in the Mytaranor sector, and its neighbour in the same system is Trandosha, home of the reptilian Trandoshans[1][5]. The planet appears in Revenge of the Sith, The Bad Batch and the games Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Battlefront II[1].

Who lives here

Role in the galaxy

Kashyyyk matters because of where it is and who lives there. Its position on the hyperspace lanes drew the Separatists to the planet in the last days of the Clone Wars, and the Wookiees, strong and loyal, are the people who defend it[1][2].

Under the Empire, Kashyyyk becomes a place of hardship and defiance. Wookiees are forced into labour, many ending up in the Kessel spice mines, and the planet turns into a centre of resistance[1]. Wookiees such as Chewbacca and the chieftain Tarfful carry the planet's story across the saga[2].
